Concrete Services in Fairfax, VA

A Fairfax mailing address does not tell you who issues permits. Homes inside the city limits fall under the City of Fairfax, while many houses with the same address are actually in Fairfax County. Before we quote concrete services for your driveway, patio, or walk, we confirm which side of that line you are on. Our Fairfax page covers the rest of our work here.

Where the Water Goes

The city is the headwaters of Accotink Creek, and Daniels Run starts inside the city and flows into it. In practice, much of Fairfax drains downhill toward stream valleys, and concrete changes how fast water moves. A driveway pitched toward the garage or a patio that sheds onto the house will cause trouble, especially on Piedmont clay that soaks up water and heaves when it freezes. We grade every slab so it drains away from the foundation and toward a place that can handle the flow.

Near Old Town and the City of Fairfax Historic District, the setting matters too. A bright new slab can look harsh next to older brick. Muted color, a soft broom finish, or a modest stamped border helps new work blend in, and we ask the city about any review that might apply.

Services We Bring to Fairfax

  • Flat Work Concrete: driveways, aprons, front walks, and stoops on a compacted stone base.
  • Stamped Concrete: patios and pool surrounds with a slate, flagstone, or brick look.
  • Colored Concrete: integral color mixed into the concrete so the tone runs all the way through.
  • Concrete Repairs: broken steps, settled sections, and cracks that let water under the slab.
  • Concrete Resurfacing: a new top layer for a worn slab that is still structurally sound.
  • Concrete Maintenance: cleaning, crack sealing, and penetrating sealer to fight salt damage.

Front steps deserve a special mention. On many older Fairfax homes, the steps have pulled away from the house or lost their edges. We rebuild them with even risers and a firm landing, because an uneven step at the front door is a real trip hazard.

We come out for free, measure, and talk through options. The written quote breaks out each step, and the crew that starts your job is the crew that finishes it.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if the City of Fairfax or Fairfax County handles my permit?

It depends on whether your home is inside city limits, not on your mailing address. We look up your property before quoting and tell you which office applies to your driveway or patio project.

Can you replace the driveway apron at the street?

Yes. Aprons that tie into a public street can have separate requirements, so we confirm them with the right office before we remove anything, then build the new apron to fit the street and your driveway.

What is the difference between colored and stained concrete?

Integral color is mixed into the concrete before it is poured, so chips and wear do not reveal a gray core. Stain is applied to the surface afterward. We usually recommend integral color for driveways and walks.

Why does water pool on my patio?

The slab was likely poured flat or has settled. Concrete needs a gentle pitch to shed water. Depending on condition, we can correct it with a repair, partial replacement, or a new slab on a properly graded base.

Do you work on homes near George Mason University?

Yes. We serve homes throughout the City of Fairfax and the surrounding county neighborhoods, including streets near the university and Old Town. Call to set up a free estimate at your property.
