Concrete Services in Dale City, VA

Cecil D. Hylton started building Dale City in 1960, and more than 22,000 homes followed through the 1970s and 1980s. Drive Dale Boulevard from Ashdale to Trentdale and you will see driveways and walkways from every one of those decades, many lifted by mature trees or cracked by long winters. That is the kind of concrete we deal with often. Homes built in the same era tend to share the same problems, so if the walk next door has heaved, yours may not be far behind. Our concrete services range from a single step repair to a full driveway. The Dale City page covers what else we do here.

Hills, Dales, and Mature Trees

Hylton named the community for the hills and dales of the Virginia Piedmont, and those slopes affect concrete. A driveway that runs downhill toward the garage needs a way to stop water at the door, and walks on a grade need steps or landings that will not turn slick. The red clay here drains slowly, so water trapped under slabs freezes and pushes them up. Add roots from trees that have had decades to grow, and you get the tilted sidewalk panels and trip edges common across older sections.

Dale City is unincorporated, so permits go through Prince William County. If your work touches the apron where the driveway meets the street, we confirm the requirements first. Dale City also runs its own water and sewer systems, and we always have utilities marked before we dig.

Matching the Fix to the Problem

Concrete Repairs handle trip edges, broken steps, and one or two sunken panels. If roots are the cause, we deal with them carefully rather than just pouring over the problem. Concrete Resurfacing works for driveways that are flat and intact but pitted. For full replacement, Flat Work Concrete gives you a new driveway, walk, or stoop on a properly compacted base. Backyard projects often use Stamped Concrete or Colored Concrete to turn a plain slab into a real patio. Afterward, Concrete Maintenance keeps the surface sealed against salt and water.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

A tree root lifted my sidewalk. What are my options?

We can grind down a small trip edge, lift and reset a panel, or remove the section, prune the root if the tree can tolerate it, and pour new. We look at the tree's health before cutting anything.

My driveway slopes toward the garage. How do you keep water out?

We can regrade during replacement, add a trench drain near the garage door, or reshape the slab so water turns aside. The right answer depends on how steep the drive is and where the water can go.

Do I need a permit to replace my Dale City driveway?

Sometimes, especially if you change its size or the apron at the street. Permits go through Prince William County, and we check before we schedule the job.

Is it worth repairing concrete from the 1970s?

If the slab is level and the cracks are narrow, repair or resurfacing can add years of use. If it is heaved, broken in many places, or draining toward the house, replacement is the better value.

How long does a walkway replacement take?

A typical front walk takes a day or two of work, plus curing time before heavy use. Weather and the amount of old concrete to break out can stretch that a bit.
