Sprinkler Systems in Springfield, VA

Most Springfield yards took shape between the 1950s and the 1970s, when North and West Springfield filled in with new homes. Decades later, those lots have big shade trees, settled beds, and lawns that were never planned with irrigation in mind. Adding or updating sprinkler systems on that kind of property takes some care, and it is work we do all over Springfield.

Keeping Water Out of Accotink Creek

Lake Accotink has a long history of sediment buildup from upstream runoff. A sprinkler that sprays sidewalks or keeps running after the ground is saturated sends water, fertilizer, and loose soil toward the same storm drains and creek. We set up Springfield systems to keep water on the lawn: matched nozzles within each zone, short repeated cycles on Piedmont clay, and heads turned away from driveways.

Homes that back onto perennial streams may be inside a Fairfax County Resource Protection Area. Clearing or grading there needs county approval, so we keep new lines and beds out of that strip unless the county signs off. Permits in general go through Fairfax County, and we check if your backflow device or a new connection needs one.

Six Ways We Help Older Lawns

Retrofits. Our sprinkler installation service routes pipe around mature roots and old walkways, with shaded turf on separate zones from sunny lawn.

Fixes. Sprinkler repair covers the usual problems in aging systems: brittle fittings, sunken heads, and valves that no longer close.

Seasonal care. A sprinkler system checkup includes spring startup once hard freezes are past and fall winterization before the late October average frost.

Water savings. An irrigation efficiency checkup measures real output zone by zone and shows where water is going to waste.

Beds. Drip irrigation systems water foundation plantings at the root without splashing siding or feeding leaf disease.

Water features. We build ponds & water features sized for a suburban backyard, from a simple fountain to a small pond with a pump and filter.

Clear Quotes, One Crew

We start with a free walk-through and follow up with a written quote listing each zone and part. Once you approve it, one crew handles the job and leaves the lawn raked and tidy.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you install sprinklers around mature trees in an older yard?

Yes. We route pipe to avoid major roots, dig by hand close to trunks when needed, and put tree-shaded turf on its own zone so it gets less water than the sunny parts of the lawn.

My yard backs onto a stream. Can it still be irrigated?

Usually the lawn near the house is fine. Land along perennial streams may be part of a Fairfax County Resource Protection Area, where clearing and grading need approval, so we keep new work out of that buffer unless the county approves it.

What is included in a spring startup?

We open the main valve slowly, pressurize the lines, run each zone, check every head for damage and direction, look for leaks, test the controller and rain sensor, and set a starting schedule for the season.

How do I stop my system from causing runoff?

Shorter, repeated cycles let clay soil absorb water before it runs off. We also fix sprays aimed at pavement, replace mismatched nozzles, and add a rain sensor so the system skips a cycle after a good storm.

Do I need a Fairfax County permit for irrigation?

It depends on the scope, especially the water connection and backflow device. We check with Fairfax County during planning and take care of any needed paperwork before installation starts.
