Arbor Care Services We Offer
Arbor Care in Dale City, VA
Cecil D. Hylton started building Dale City in 1960 and named it for the hills and dales of the Virginia Piedmont. The first six neighborhoods were finished by 1969, and many more followed through the 1970s and 1980s, all the way along Dale Boulevard from Ashdale in the east to Trentdale in the west. After more than half a century, those yards are full of mature trees and older plantings. Our arbor care work here is mostly about managing trees that have grown large right next to the houses they were planted to shade.
Where Older Yards Need Help
Trees planted in the 1960s and 1970s were often set close to foundations and driveways, before anyone thought about their full size. Today their limbs rest on roofs, their roots heave walkways, and some have lost vigor in compacted clay. Here is how we address that:
Tree Assessment & Evaluation gives you a clear picture of which trees on the lot are healthy, which need pruning, and which are a risk.
Tree Trimming removes deadwood and pulls limbs back from the roof, gutters, and chimney without butchering the crown.
Tree Removal takes out trees that have declined or been damaged, piece by piece where houses sit close.
Stump Removal clears the old stump so you can regrade, reseed, or plant.
Tree Planting puts a replacement in a better spot, far enough from the house to grow to full size.
Hills, Clay, and County Permits
Dale City sits on rolling Piedmont ground west of I-95. On the sloped lots of these hills and dales, a removed tree can leave soil exposed, so we keep cleanup tidy and suggest replanting or ground cover where needed. Red clay compacts under foot traffic and parked cars, starving roots of air, which is a common cause of slow decline in older trees here. Permits, when tree work needs one, go through Prince William County.
The estimate is free. We follow it with a written quote showing exactly what each tree will get and what it costs. One crew, licensed and insured, does the work and hauls away the debris.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my old tree thinning out at the top?
Thinning at the crown often points to root stress, such as compacted clay, root damage from past digging, or decay. It can also signal disease. An assessment looks at the roots, trunk, and canopy to find the cause and whether the tree can recover.
The tree in front was planted too close to the house. Can it stay?
Sometimes, with regular pruning to keep limbs off the roof. If roots are damaging the foundation or the trunk is pushing against the house, removal and replanting farther out is usually the safer long-term answer.
How much does it cost to remove a large tree in Dale City?
It depends on height, trunk size, how close it is to the house and lines, access to the backyard, and if you would like the stump ground and wood hauled. We give a firm written price after seeing it.
Can you plant a tree where the old stump was?
Usually it is better to plant a few feet away, since buried roots and grinding chips take time to break down. We can grind deeper and backfill with soil if you really want the same spot.
Do you work in all the Dale City neighborhoods?
Yes, from the older eastern sections near Ashdale through the later neighborhoods to the west. We are based in Prince William County and work across Dale City regularly.
